"I’ve aimed my public safety legislation at taking guns off the streets and protecting our families and children from sexual predators.  I am one of the few legislators of late to pass gun-safety bills and have them signed into law.  Among these laws are stricter penalties for “straw purchasers,” a requirement that every gun sold in Illinois be equipped with a trigger lock, and the closing of the “gun show loophole” which had permitted gun show sales without background checks.  Working with Attorney General Lisa Madigan, I have passed several bills to protect our families and children from predatory sex offenders.  These new laws include lifetime supervision of sex offenders and a tightening of sex offender registration requirements."
