Chances are you've seen Don Harmon around. Hopefully, you've had a chance to meet him. Don is a lifetime resident of the 39th District (give or take a few years at college), and he and his wife, Teri, are raising their family here. You'll find a brief biography of Senator Harmon below. Senator Harmon has received numerous awards and honors for his service as a legislator and for his service in the community. After only three years in the Illinois Senate, Senator Harmon has been the Chief Senate Sponsor of over 100 piece of legislation that are currently Illinois law. These legislative accomplishments show the dedication Senator Harmon has to his constituents and to Illinois. Senator Harmon is working on your behalf in Springfield during the current legislative session. SENATOR HARMON'S BIOGRAPHY Don Harmon and his family have deep roots in the Oak Park, Austin, and the western suburbs that make up the 39th Legislative District. Harmon was born and raised in Oak Park. He attended St. Giles Grade School and remains a member of the parish today. Harmon has chosen to raise his own family where he grew up. He and his wife, Teri, live in Oak Park with their three young children. Elected to the Illinois Senate on November 5th, 2002, Harmon currently serves as the Chairman of the Senate Revenue Committee and the Vice-chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Rounding out his committee assignments are appointments to the Senate Environment & Energy Committee, the Senate Appropriations (II) Committee, and the Senate Pensions & Investments Committee. Senator Harmon has been appointed by Governor Blagojevich to the Commission on Guardianship and Advocacy. Senate President Emil Jones, Jr. appointed Senator Harmon to the Commission on Government Forecasting and Economic Accountability, the Board of Directors for the Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan, the Board of Trustees of the General Assembly Retirement System, the Illinois Early Learning Council, the Internet Privacy Council, and the Public Safety and Justice Task Force of the Council of State Governments . Additionally, Senator Harmon recently chaired the Dog and Cat Overpopulation Advisory Committee, a special committee of the General Assembly. |
